Lake Sherwood, California
Lake Sherwood is a 1,900 acre unincorporated community located in the Santa Monica Mountains, in eastern Ventura County. It is one of the most affluent communities in the United States located just south of Thousand Oaks in the Conejo Valley. Malibu is located to the south, Hidden Valley and Potrero Valley are to the west, and Westlake Village is to the east. Agoura Hills is approximately 7 miles to the northeast. The community consists of approximately 670 luxury homes located within a guard-gated golf-club community.
Sherwood Country Club
Sherwood Country Club is a private, member owned golf, tennis and country club located at Lake Sherwood, at the base of the Santa Monica Mountains just west of Westlake Village. The club offers fine dining and many social activities utilizing its 14,000 square foot luxury clubhouse. The course record is held by Tiger Woods.
Lake Sherwood - Potrero Lake
Lake Sherwood, which is approximately 165 acres, previously known as Potrero Lake, was the first man-made lake in California, created in 1904. The name was changed to Lake Sherwood in 1921 when the surrounding areas used to film “Robin Hood”, staring Douglas Fairbanks Jr., became known as “Sherwood Forest”.
Potrero Valley Creek
Potrero Valley Creek carries excess water from Lake Sherwood Lake to Westlake Lake in Westlake Village during periods of heavy rain. Excess water from Westlake Lake flows to Malibou Lake and then to Malibu Creek where it flows to Malibu Lagoon which is part of the Santa Monica Bay and Pacific Ocean.

Potrero Dam
The Sherwood Dam is also referred to as Lake Sherwood Dam, or the Potrero Dam. It was constructed in 1904 for the purpose of creating a reservoir which was first called Potrero Lake and later renamed Lake Sherwood. The dam, which is 270 feet long at its crest, is one of the oldest dams constructed in California.
Las Virgenes Reservoir
The Las Virgenes Reservoir is located in the hills just south of Westlake Village near Lake Sherwood. The reservoir holds a three to six month supply of treated drinking water for district customers located in Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills and Old Agoura. The reservoir is owned and maintained by the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District which is governed by an elected five member board of directors.
